Fortnitemares 2026: Leaks Hint at Classic Horror Icons

October is here, which means Fortnite players are gearing up for the game’s annual Halloween makeover. Fortnitemares 2026 is almost here. Epic Games has already started dropping cryptic hints online, and as usual, the data-mining community has gone into overdrive.

Next week, the battle royale island will get much spookier. If the latest leaks are anything to go by, this year’s event might be the most ambitious one yet. From iconic horror movie villains to massive gameplay overhauls, here is what we know so far about the upcoming update.

The Rumored Horror Guest Stars

Fortnite is famous for its massive crossovers. Halloween is the perfect excuse to bring in cinema’s most terrifying figures. Rumors are swirling about who will make the cut this year, and some of the names are massive.

According to notable Fortnite leaker HYPEX, players might finally get a crossover with the Scream franchise. A Ghostface skin has been at the top of fan wishlists for years. Leaked string files in the game’s latest patch hint at a voice-changing emote and a signature hunting knife harvesting tool. It would be a perfect fit for the game’s slasher-themed cosmetics.

But Ghostface might not be alone. Another prominent insider, ShiinaBR, shared clues pointing toward a collaboration with Five Nights at Freddy’s. Fans spotted files referencing “security guard” outfits and animatronic back blings that react when you take damage in-game. Epic Games hasn’t confirmed these details yet, but the timing fits perfectly with rumors of upcoming projects from that franchise.

There are also whispers about a return of classic Universal monsters, possibly with a modern twist. We could see a new version of Dracula or Frankenstein’s monster roaming the map as hostile NPCs.

A Haunted Map Overhaul

It isn’t just about cosmetics, though. Fortnitemares always brings major changes to how the game plays. The map itself is set for a dark transformation.

Dataminers claim that a thick, persistent fog will cover parts of the island, drastically reducing visibility. This will make long-range sniper fights much harder and force players into tense, close-quarters combat. Eerie ambient music will also replace the standard match audio in certain points of interest. Several landing spots are expected to get spooky makeovers, with cobwebs, flickering lights, and jumpscare-inducing decorations scattered throughout residential areas.

Spooky Weapons and Vampire Hunts

Then there are the weapons. The fan-favorite Pumpkin Launcher is almost guaranteed to return, but leakers have found files for an entirely new weapon called the “Stake Shotgun.” Designed to counter a rumored vampire boss roaming the island, this weapon reportedly deals extra damage to NPCs and features a unique wooden stake reload animation.

Witch Brooms are also expected to make a comeback. They give players a quick way to escape tight spots by launching into the air and gliding to safety. Combine those with the rumored return of Siphon mechanics for temporary health boosts, and the combat dynamic is going to feel very different.

Horde Rush and New Quests

For players who prefer fighting monsters instead of other players, the beloved co-op mode Horde Rush is rumored to return with some nasty upgrades. This time, Epic is reportedly adding new monster variants, including exploding “gas-cloud” fiends and ultra-fast “stalker” creatures that chase you down if you stay in one place too long.

Completing these Horde Rush challenges, along with daily Fortnitemares quests, will reward players with free cosmetics. These prizes usually include loading screens, spray decals, weapon wraps, and potentially a free back bling or glider for those who finish the entire questline.

When Does It Start?

While Epic Games has kept the official start date quiet, the community expects Fortnitemares 2026 to launch alongside the v32.10 update. This patch is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 13.

Historically, these events run for about three weeks, ending shortly after Halloween night. Epic usually releases a cinematic trailer a day or two before the update goes live, so we should get official confirmation very soon. Get your squad ready. The island is about to get a lot darker, and you will need more than just good aim to survive the night.
