Fortnitemares 2026: Haunted Mazes and Iconic Horror Skins Revealed
A Spookier Island Awaits
Halloween is taking over the Fortnite island once again, and Epic Games is not holding back this year. The developer just pulled the curtain back on Fortnitemares 2026, revealing a massive slate of spooky updates, gameplay overhauls, and some highly anticipated cosmetics.
Unlike previous years where the holiday event mostly meant a purple sky and some floating cubes, 2026 is introducing actual, physical hazards to the map. The headliner this time around? Interactive haunted mazes.
Navigate the Horrors of Haunted Mazes
These are not just decorative structures. Epic has scattered three sprawling, dark labyrinths across the Battle Royale map, replacing some of the quieter landmarks. According to early patch notes, these labyrinths are located near the center of the map, the eastern forest, and the southern coast. Each maze has its own unique theme. One is a decaying Victorian mansion, another is an overgrown cornfield, and the third is a subterranean bunker.
Once you step inside, your mini-map goes completely dark. You are left to navigate the twisting corridors using only ambient light and whatever flashlight you can find. Creepy sound design, sudden jump scares, and AI-controlled monsters will hunt you as you try to find the exit. Entering them is entirely optional, but the rewards are hard to ignore.
Deep inside each maze lies a legendary chest guaranteed to drop high-tier loot. Of course, you are not alone in there. Enemy squads can ambush you around any corner, leading to chaotic, close-quarters firefights in the dark. It is a tense, claustrophobic addition that changes how the mid-game plays out.
Iconic Horror Crossovers and Fresh Skins
No Fortnitemares event is complete without a fresh batch of terrifying skins. Epic Games has lined up a mix of classic cinema monsters and modern horror icons for the 2026 shop.
This year’s major crossover features Ghostface from the Scream franchise, complete with a built-in emote that mimics the iconic phone calls. Joining him is a redesigned, highly detailed skin of Dracula from the classic Universal Monsters vault, giving old-school horror fans something to get excited about. There are also rumors of a surprise anime crossover landing mid-event, though Epic is keeping those details under wraps for now.

For players who prefer original Fortnite designs, several fan-favorite outfits are getting eerie, decayed makeovers. The item shop will rotate these spooky cosmetics daily throughout October, alongside creepy back blings, gliders, and harvesting tools. Classic skins like Shadow Midas and the Skull Trooper are also getting new selectable styles, which will be free for existing owners.
Horde Rush Returns with a Vengeance
If you are tired of the intense sweat of Battle Royale, the beloved Horde Rush mode is making its grand return. This co-op PvE mode challenges squads of four to survive waves of Cube Monsters while moving across the map.
This year, Epic has tuned up the difficulty. The monsters are faster, and new elemental variants can freeze or burn players on impact. To survive, squads will need to coordinate their loadouts and make use of the upgraded weapons scattered around the arenas. The mode culminates in a massive, multi-stage boss fight against a redesigned Caretaker monster that will test even the most experienced teams.
Completing Horde Rush challenges will unlock free, event-exclusive rewards, including:
- An animated weapon wrap
- A bat-themed back bling
- A custom loading screen
Loot Pool Shakeups and Start Dates
The island’s standard loot pool is also getting its annual spooky shakeup. The classic Pumpkin Launcher is back in action, firing explosive jack-o’-lanterns that destroy enemy builds with ease. Witch Brooms are also unvaulted, giving players a quick, vertical mobility option to escape sticky situations.
Even the game’s main menu is getting a facelift. The standard lobby screen has been replaced with a dimly lit graveyard, complete with fog rolling across the screen and a haunting new orchestral theme playing in the background. It sets the perfect mood before you even jump into a match.
Fortnitemares 2026 officially kicks off on Tuesday, October 13, and will run until Tuesday, November 3. Players can download the update starting at 4:00 AM Eastern Time, with matchmaking expected to go live shortly after downtime ends.
