Guillermo del Toro Designs Fortnitemares 2026 Boss Raid

Epic Games is dialing up the terror for this year’s Halloween season, and they have enlisted some serious Hollywood muscle to do it. The developer has officially announced “Fortnitemares 2026: The Shattered Veil,” and the crown jewel of the event is a massive, interactive PvE boss raid designed by legendary horror director Guillermo del Toro. The nightmare begins on October 23.

This is not just another spooky skin pack. Del Toro, the mastermind behind cinematic masterpieces like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, has spent months working with Epic’s design team. The goal? To create a truly unsettling, multi-stage boss fight that pushes the limits of what Fortnite’s Unreal Engine 5 can do. Players will face off against “The Obsidian Weaver,” a massive, clockwork monstrosity covered in eyes that feels straight out of a dark fairy tale.

The Shattered Veil: A 16-Player Battle Against the Dark

Epic is steering away from the standard battle royale format for this specific encounter. Instead, players will team up in 16-person lobbies to take on the Weaver in a dedicated PvE mode. It is a true raid experience. You cannot just run in and shoot. The fight takes place in a shifting, gothic cathedral that warps and changes as the boss loses health.

“We wanted something that felt genuinely collaborative and deeply atmospheric,” Charlie Wen, Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games, said during the reveal. “Guillermo brought an aesthetic that is incredibly detailed and beautifully grotesque. It is unlike anything we have ever hosted on the island.”

The raid itself features three distinct phases. In the first phase, players must navigate a labyrinth of moving walls while avoiding the boss’s sweeping scythe-like appendages. The second phase introduces puzzle elements, requiring teams to split up and activate ancient runes to shield themselves from a room-clearing scream attack. The final phase strips away building mechanics entirely, forcing players to rely on quick movement and precise shooting to survive.

What is in the Loot Pool?

To survive the Shattered Veil, players will need some specialized gear. Epic is unvaulting several fan-favorite Halloween items, but the real stars are the new weapons designed specifically for this event.

Get Know Instant Access

  • The Midnight Elixir: A consumable that grants temporary shadow-phasing abilities, allowing you to slip through solid walls.
  • The Sun-Glow Crossbow: A fast-firing weapon that deals massive damage to the Weaver’s weak spots but requires precise aiming.
  • Witch Brooms: Back for rapid mobility, perfect for escaping the boss’s sweeping attacks.

Epic is also adding a brand-new “Exorcist Rifle,” which fires specialized stakes that can pin smaller enemies to walls, keeping them out of the fight while your teammates focus on the main boss.

Eerie Rewards and Limited-Time Skins

Of course, it would not be Fortnitemares without some exclusive loot. Players who successfully defeat The Obsidian Weaver on the hardest difficulty setting will unlock the “Alchemist of Shadows” outfit. This skin, also designed by del Toro, features reactive elements that glow brighter with every elimination you get in standard battle royale matches.

There is also a free reward track for players who complete daily event challenges. Rewards include the “Chrono-Heart” back bling, a creepy clockwork heart that ticks in sync with the match timer, and a custom glider made of tattered, ghostly fabric.

When Does the Event Start?

The event kicks off on Wednesday, October 23, following a brief period of server downtime for the v34.10 update. The Shattered Veil raid and its associated challenges will remain active until November 3, giving players just under two weeks to conquer the cathedral and claim their rewards.

For those who prefer traditional battle royale, the main island will also get a spooky makeover. Fog will roll across the map, and hordes of “Husks” will spawn near major points of interest, adding a layer of chaos to standard matches. But the real draw is undoubtedly del Toro’s creation. Whether you are a casual player or a seasoned raider, this is one Halloween event you will not want to miss.
