Fortnite Adds Wishlist Alerts and Real-Time Inventory Sync
A Smarter Way to Shop in Fortnite
Epic Games is finally giving Fortnite players something they have begged for. For years, keeping track of when your favorite skins return to the Item Shop felt like a second job. That changes this month. The game’s October 2026 update introduces a native “Wishlist Alerts” system alongside a complete overhaul of how your virtual locker syncs across different consoles and devices. No more guesswork, and no more relying on third-party Twitter bots to see if your favorite cosmetic is back in rotation.
The centerpiece of the update is the new wishlist button. It is a simple concept, but one that players have wanted since the early days of Battle Royale. Now, when you browse the shop or look through the game’s massive archive of past cosmetics, you will see a small heart icon next to each item. Tapping this adds the skin, glider, or emote to your personal wishlist.
How the New Wishlist Alerts Work
Once an item is on your list, the game does the tracking for you. Epic has integrated this system across multiple touchpoints to ensure you never miss a rare drop:
- Epic Games Launcher Notifications: PC players will receive a direct desktop notification the moment the shop resets if a wishlisted item is available.
- Mobile Push Alerts: If you have the Epic Games mobile app installed on your phone, you will get a push notification on your lock screen.
- In-Game Pop-ups: The next time you boot up Fortnite on any platform, a clean dashboard notification will highlight which of your wanted items are currently up for grabs.
- Email Digests: An optional daily email can summarize any active matches between your wishlist and the live shop.
It is a smart business move too. Epic knows that player impulse buying goes up when the friction of finding an item disappears. By letting players flag exactly what they want to spend their V-Bucks on, the publisher ensures fewer missed sales. It also saves players from the daily chore of logging in at 8 PM Eastern Time just to check the shop manually.
Real-Time Syncing Across All Platforms
But the update is not just about alerting you to new items. Epic is also quietly fixing a long-running headache for multi-platform players: inventory syncing.

Fortnite is everywhere. You can play it on a high-end gaming PC, a PlayStation 5, an Xbox Series X, a Nintendo Switch, or even your mobile phone while riding the bus. However, buying V-Bucks or unlocking cosmetics on one platform historically led to annoying delays. Sometimes, a skin bought on the PlayStation Store would not show up in your Switch locker for hours, requiring multiple restarts of the game client. This lag was especially frustrating during time-limited events or when trying to jump straight into a match with friends using a brand-new style.
With the new real-time synchronization backend, that delay is gone. Epic says the database now updates instantly across all connected platform storefronts. If you purchase a bundle on your Xbox, it will be sitting in your locker on your mobile device the second you open the app. The system operates in milliseconds, removing the clunky lag that has plagued cross-progression for years.
Adapting to a Multi-Game Ecosystem
This upgrade arrives at a critical time. Fortnite is no longer just a single battle royale map. It has grown into a sprawling digital hub containing Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. Each of these modes has its own unique cosmetics, ranging from digital bricks to virtual guitars and custom racing wheels. With so many separate game modes, the sheer volume of cosmetics has skyrocketed. Navigating the shop without these organizational tools was becoming a massive headache.
“This is the kind of quality-of-life update that should have happened years ago,” says veteran Fortnite player and streamer Marcus ‘Tectonic’ Vance. “We have thousands of skins now. Nobody has the time to scroll through a massive store every day just to see if one specific emote from three years ago is back. Letting us set it and forget it is a lifesaver.”
The October 2026 update is rolling out globally this week. Players can start building their wishlists immediately after downloading the latest patch on their respective platforms.
