Fortnite Welcomes Back Classic Battle Pass Skins to Item Shop
Fortnite players who missed out on the late 2024 seasonal rewards can finally get their hands on them. Epic Games has officially released the very first batch of former Battle Pass cosmetics directly into the Item Shop. This marks a major shift. For years, the rule was simple: once a Battle Pass season ended, those skins were gone forever. That strict policy is now history.
The move comes exactly 18 months after Epic Games dramatically rewrote its monetization rules. In August 2024, the developer announced it would phase out lifetime exclusivity for Battle Pass items. Under the revised policy, any item featured in a Battle Pass starting from Chapter 5, Season 4 could eventually enter the general store rotation. The only catch was a mandatory 18-month waiting period. Now, that clock has finally run out.
The First Items Make Their Debut
The virtual storefront updated this week to reveal several highly anticipated cosmetics from the late-2024 ‘Absolute Doom’ season. Among the new arrivals are fan-favorite character outfits, back blings, and harvesting tools that were previously locked behind hours of seasonal gameplay. Players who missed that era due to school, work, or simply not playing the game yet are wasting no time picking up these formerly out-of-reach items.
While some veteran players expressed disappointment at seeing their rare skins lose their exclusive status, the broader gaming community has welcomed the change. The anxiety of missing out—frequently dubbed FOMO by players—has been a cornerstone of Fortnite’s business model for nearly a decade. By softening this stance, Epic is making the game far more welcoming to newcomers who felt penalized for starting late.

A Shift in Fortnite’s Economy
However, getting these items late will cost you. Epic Games designed the new system to ensure that purchasing the Battle Pass when it first launches remains the most economical option. While a standard Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks and includes dozens of rewards, buying just one of these returned skins individually in the Item Shop can cost anywhere from 1,200 to 2,000 V-Bucks.
This pricing structure serves two purposes:
- It preserves the financial value of buying and completing the Battle Pass during its active season.
- It provides Epic with a highly lucrative secondary market for players willing to pay a premium for specific, older cosmetics.
Not every single item from the past Battle Passes is guaranteed to return, either. Epic has maintained that while items can return after 18 months, their appearance in the store is entirely at the company’s discretion. Some highly sought-after styles or collaboration skins might still take longer to resurface, depending on licensing agreements and store curation.
What This Means for the Future of Fortnite
This milestone represents a permanent change in how Epic Games manages its digital inventory. By breaking down the walls of absolute exclusivity, the company is adapting to a gaming market that increasingly favors accessibility over artificial scarcity. Newer players can now customize their avatars with legendary looks, while Epic secures a steady stream of revenue from its vast archive of older designs.
As the months roll on, more seasonal items from 2024 and 2025 will hit their respective 18-month expiration dates. Fortnite’s Item Shop is about to get a lot more crowded, and the game’s virtual economy will never be the same again.
