Epic Games Details Fortnite’s Upcoming Disney Chronicle Expansion
A Permanent Digital Theme Park
The multi-billion-dollar handshake between Epic Games and Disney is finally turning into something real. Epic has pulled back the curtain on ‘Disney Chronicle,’ a massive, permanent virtual world built directly inside Fortnite. This marks the first major milestone of Disney’s landmark $1.5 billion investment in the game developer.
This is a fundamental shift in how Fortnite operates. For years, players have grown used to temporary crossovers. A Marvel villain arrives for a three-week event, a Star Wars lightsaber is unvaulted, and then they disappear. Disney Chronicle changes that dynamic. It is a persistent, living ecosystem designed to exist alongside Battle Royale, Rocket Racing, and LEGO Fortnite forever.
An Interconnected Multi-Universe
“We are building something entirely new,” Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said during the announcement. “This is not just another game mode. It is a persistent space where the worlds of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars come together in a way that respects their individual stories while allowing players to interact with them in a shared digital playground.”
At its core, Disney Chronicle acts as an expansive virtual hub. Players enter through a stylized celestial gateway inside the main Fortnite lobby. Once inside, they find themselves in a central plaza that serves as the starting point for multiple distinct zones. Each zone represents a different legendary franchise.
Early concepts show a highly detailed “District of Tomorrow” inspired by Tron and Star Wars, standing right next to a whimsical, hand-painted valley representing classic Disney animation. Players can travel between these areas seamlessly. You might see Peter Pan racing a Star Wars speeder bike, or Buzz Lightyear exploring a medieval castle with Elsa.

Building, Questing, and Co-Op Play
But what do you actually do in Disney Chronicle? According to Epic, the gameplay focuses heavily on socialization, persistent world-building, and cooperative questing. Players can purchase virtual plots of land using a shared economy. On these plots, they can build custom homes, interactive games, or digital galleries using tools powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Questing will be a major pillar. Epic plans to launch episodic “Chronicles”—narrative-driven missions that players can complete solo or with friends. These missions are being written in collaboration with Disney’s top creatives. They will expand on existing movie lore rather than just retelling old stories.
Looking Ahead to the Launch
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, emphasized the longevity of the project. “We view Disney Chronicle as an extensible physical-digital park,” D’Amaro stated. “Just as we constantly update our physical theme parks with new rides and lands, we will continually expand this digital world. It will grow alongside our theatrical releases, allowing fans to step into new movies the same week they hit theaters.”
The scale of the project is unprecedented for Epic. To handle the massive influx of assets and players, Epic is upgrading its backend infrastructure. They are utilizing advanced server-meshing technology to allow hundreds of players to occupy the same virtual space without performance drops.
The rollout will be gradual. Here is what the current timeline looks like:
- Closed alpha testing for select Fortnite players starts in late 2025.
- A wider open beta will roll out in early 2026.
- The official, full global launch is expected later that year.
For fans of both brands, the wait is about to get very interesting. It is a bold bet on the future of the metaverse, and one that could change gaming forever.
