Fortnite Reveals Disney Universe with Virtual Disneyland
Epic Games has finally pulled back the curtain on its massive collaboration with Disney. It is a virtual playground that promises to fundamentally change how we experience theme parks and battle royales alike.
The announcement comes nearly a year after Disney bought a whopping $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games. Now, we finally know what that investment is actually building. Dubbed the “Disney Universe” expansion, this digital ecosystem will live directly inside Fortnite, launching alongside the game’s upcoming Chapter 7.
A Digital Disneyland in Your Living Room
The centerpiece of the reveal is a painstakingly detailed, virtual recreation of Disneyland. Players will not just look at the castle from a distance. They can walk down Main Street, U.S.A., meet up with friends, and even hop on digital versions of legendary attractions. Epic confirmed that classics like Space Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, and Big Thunder Mountain are being rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. It feels less like a simple marketing stunt and more like a permanent digital vacation destination.
According to the developers, the physics of these rides will mimic their real-world counterparts. You can sit in the roller coaster cars, experience the lighting effects, and hear the iconic soundtracks. It is virtual tourism on an unprecedented scale.
Enter the Marvel Crossover Zones
But it is not all fireworks and fairy tales. For the action-oriented players, Epic is introducing dedicated Marvel crossover zones. These are not just basic map updates. They are fully realized, persistent battlegrounds.

Epic showcased a sprawling, futuristic Wakanda where players can complete quests, earn unique gear, and engage in skirmishes. There is also a highly interactive Stark Industries plaza. This zone serves as both a social hub and a high-stakes combat arena, complete with customizable Iron Man armor stations. It represents a deeper narrative integration than any previous Fortnite season has attempted.
A Permanent Digital World
“We wanted to create a place where the physical and digital worlds of Disney don’t just touch, but fully merge,” said Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney. “This isn’t a temporary event. It’s a living, breathing world that will grow for years to come.”
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, echoed this enthusiasm during the presentation. He called the project a “digital canvas” where fans of all ages can write their own stories. The scale of the project suggests Disney views Fortnite as a major future pillar of its entertainment strategy.
How Will It Work?
According to Epic, the Disney Universe will exist as a distinct space accessible directly from the main Fortnite lobby. Players can bring their existing character skins into the zone. That means you could easily see Goku, Darth Vader, and Peter Griffin riding the Mad Tea Party teacups together. However, certain combat mechanics will be disabled in the park areas to keep the vibe family-friendly. Combat-heavy gameplay will be reserved for the Marvel and Star Wars-themed zones.
This move represents a massive bet on the metaverse. While other tech companies have scaled back their virtual world ambitions, Epic and Disney are doubling down. By integrating these massive intellectual properties into Fortnite’s existing ecosystem of over 100 million active players, they are bypassing the struggle of building a new audience from scratch.
The expansion is scheduled to roll out in phases starting with the launch of Chapter 7. Epic plans to hold a massive live in-game event to transition players into the new era. If the early footage is any indication, the line between gaming and virtual tourism is about to get incredibly blurry.
