Fortnite Disney Universe to Debut Marvel and Star Wars Next Month
A New Virtual Frontier
Fortnite is about to get a whole lot bigger. Epic Games has finally shared concrete details about its massive, multi-year partnership with Disney. Next month, the gaming giant will launch the first phases of a persistent “Disney Universe” right inside the Fortnite launcher. It all starts with highly interactive, dedicated zones for both Marvel and Star Wars.
This project represents the first major milestone since Disney bought a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games earlier this year. Instead of just selling character outfits in the item shop, the two companies are building a sprawling, interconnected digital playground. It is a permanent space designed to let players play, watch, shop, and create using Disney’s biggest brands.
Stepping Into Marvel and Star Wars
When the update drops next month, players will notice a brand-new hub in the Fortnite lobby. This portal will transport players into specialized realms. The Marvel zone is designed as a living, breathing comic book world. Players can visit iconic locations like Stark Industries, explore the high-tech streets of Wakanda, and participate in cooperative missions to take down notorious villains. Epic promises these areas will feature evolving storylines that change based on community choices.
Right next door, the Star Wars zone offers a different kind of adventure. Players can wander through a bustling outer-rim spaceport, customize virtual starships, and engage in multiplayer lightsaber duels. Unlike the fleeting crossover events Fortnite is known for, these zones are here to stay. They will serve as permanent hubs that Epic plans to update continuously with new content, secret areas, and seasonal events.
More Than Just a Game
“This is not another simple collaboration,” Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said during a recent industry preview. “We are building a persistent ecosystem where Disney’s legendary storytelling meets the social, creative power of Fortnite.”

Disney CEO Bob Iger has also been vocal about the project. He previously called the partnership Disney’s most significant entry ever into the gaming world. For Disney, this is a strategic move to capture the attention of younger audiences. Millions of teens and young adults now spend more time hanging out in virtual lobbies than they do watching traditional television or streaming services.
Crucially, Epic wants to empower players to build their own Disney-themed experiences. Using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEF), creators will eventually gain access to thousands of official Disney assets. This means players can design their own custom Star Wars levels or Marvel obstacle courses, then share them with the wider community.
How It Fits Into Fortnite
Some fans might worry that these massive changes will crowd out the game they already love. Epic was quick to reassure players that the classic Battle Royale mode is not changing. The Disney Universe will exist as an independent destination within the main Fortnite hub, very similar to how Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival operate.
This integration also points to a massive shift in how digital ownership will work. Epic is working on a shared marketplace where players can buy items that work across multiple games. For instance, a lightsaber pickaxe bought in Fortnite might also be usable in other compatible Disney games down the line. This shared economy is a key part of Epic’s long-term vision to break down the walls between different gaming platforms.
The rollout next month is just the opening act. Epic plans to launch additional zones later this year, with areas themed around Pixar, Avatar, and classic Disney animation already in active development. Players can expect a unified inventory system, meaning cosmetics earned in one zone will carry over to others seamlessly.
It is an incredibly ambitious plan. If Epic pulls this off, they will have built the closest thing yet to a functioning metaverse. It is a big bet, but with Disney’s massive portfolio of intellectual property and Epic’s cutting-edge graphics technology, it might just work. We will find out soon enough. Epic says a concrete release date and the first gameplay trailers will drop in the coming weeks.
