Fortnite Adds Sora and Riku in Surprise Kingdom Hearts Crossover
Fortnite players waking up on October 1 got the kind of surprise that usually only exists in fan-made concept art. Without any prior warning or official teasers from Epic Games, the virtual shelves of the Fortnite Item Shop updated to reveal one of the most requested collaborations in the game’s history: Kingdom Hearts. The beloved Disney and Square Enix franchise has finally crossed over into the battle royale, bringing iconic protagonists Sora and Riku to the Island.
The drop caught players completely off guard. While leakers usually dig up upcoming skins days or weeks in advance, Epic managed to keep this crossover under lock and key until the shop reset. Social media platforms like X and Reddit instantly lit up with screenshots, gameplay clips, and sheer disbelief. For years, fans assumed licensing issues between Disney and Square Enix would keep Sora out of Fortnite forever. That theory went out the window overnight.
Skins, Prices, and LEGO Styles
Both Sora and Riku are available as individual purchases or as part of a discounted bundle. Sora’s outfit features his signature look from Kingdom Hearts III, complete with his oversized yellow shoes and red-and-black hoodie. Riku sports his modern, mature appearance from the same title.
Each skin costs 1,500 V-Bucks and comes bundled with their respective Back Bling. Sora gets an adorable, floating Shadow Heartless plush, while Riku carries the dark-themed Way to the Dawn wing.
Epic didn’t stop at the standard outfits. Since the massive launch of the game’s survival-crafting mode last year, every major skin release requires a blocky counterpart. Both characters come with fully realized LEGO styles. Players can run around their brick-built worlds as a miniature, plastic version of the Keyblade Master. The translation to the LEGO aesthetic is remarkably clean, retaining Sora’s famously spiked hair and Riku’s silver locks.
Keyblades and Cosmetics
Of course, a Kingdom Hearts crossover wouldn’t be complete without the iconic weapons. Players can purchase Keyblades to use as pickaxes. Sora’s classic Kingdom Key and Riku’s Soul Eater are both up for grabs at 800 V-Bucks each. There is also a special “Dearly Beloved” music track for the lobby, which plays a beautifully rearranged version of the franchise’s melancholic title theme.
To buy everything at once, Epic is offering the “Keyblade War Bundle” for 2,800 V-Bucks. This package includes:
- Sora skin with LEGO style
- Riku skin with LEGO style
- Shadow Heartless and Way to the Dawn Back Blings
- Kingdom Key and Soul Eater harvesting tools
- The “Gummi Ship” glider
- “Dearly Beloved” Lobby Track
The Disney Connection
The timing of the release makes perfect sense when you look at the bigger picture. Earlier this year, Disney announced a massive $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games. The entertainment giant made it clear that they wanted to build a persistent Disney universe inside Fortnite. While we have seen plenty of Marvel and Star Wars content since then, this is the first major step into Disney’s broader gaming library.
Community sentiment has been overwhelmingly positive, though some purists are joking about the sheer absurdity of the crossover. “Seeing Sora hit a griddy after sniping Goku is peak gaming,” one Reddit user wrote. Others are just glad the long wait is over. For a franchise built entirely on the concept of different worlds colliding, Fortnite feels like a natural, if chaotic, destination.
It remains unclear how long the collection will stay in the Item Shop rotation. Typically, major crossover events stick around for at least a week, giving players plenty of time to grind out some extra V-Bucks. For now, players are just busy hitting the battlefield with Keyblades in hand, proving that some crossover dreams do eventually come true.
