Fortnite Pulls Dune Part Three Skins After Game-Crashing Bug

A Desert Disaster in the Item Shop

Fortnite players who rushed to buy the new Dune cosmetics got a harsh reality check this week. Epic Games had to pull the highly anticipated ‘Dune: Part Three’ bundles from the shop just hours after their debut. Why? A massive physics bug was crashing matches instantly.

It was supposed to be a routine cosmetic release. With the sci-fi epic dominating pop culture, fans were eager to jump onto the island wearing the iconic desert gear. The bundle featured updated looks for Paul Atreides and Chani, complete with incredibly detailed, flowing cloaks. But those gorgeous cape physics proved to be the game’s undoing.

How a Cape Broke Fortnite

The trouble started almost immediately after the shop refreshed. Players who bought the skins equipped them and queued into matches, only to find themselves staring at their desktop screens minutes later. The issue lay in how the game’s physics engine handled the flowing fabric of the Fremen stillsuits.

Whenever a player wearing the skin performed a high-velocity action—like mantling over a wall, sliding down a hill, or using a launchpad—the cape’s physics grid went haywire. The skeletal mesh stretched infinitely, causing the game client to run out of memory and crash. It wasn’t just a frame rate drop. It was a hard, desktop-level crash that ruined matches for entire squads.

‘I was in the final circle with three kills, went to slide-kick an enemy, and my game just vanished,’ wrote one frustrated player on Reddit. ‘My teammate said my cape suddenly stretched across the whole map right before I disconnected.’

Epic Games Swaps Out the Skins

Epic Games didn’t waste any time. The developers are known for their rapid response to game-breaking issues, and this was no exception. Within three hours of the first reports, the Fortnite Status account on X announced a temporary shutdown of the items.

‘We are temporarily disabling the Dune: Part Three outfits and associated bundles due to an issue causing client crashes,’ Epic stated. ‘These items have been removed from the Item Shop, and players who have them equipped will see their skins defaulted in-match until we deploy a fix.’

This quick fix keeps the game stable but leaves buyers in limbo. If you spent your V-Bucks on the bundle, the items are still in your locker. You just can’t wear them. Epic has confirmed that no refunds are being forced yet, as the team expects to have a patch ready shortly.

A History of Heavy Physics Issues

This isn’t the first time Fortnite’s cosmetic team has run into physics-related headaches. When Epic migrated the game to Unreal Engine 5, they introduced the Chaos physics system. While it makes cape movements and hair strands look highly realistic, it also introduces more variables that can break.

Past skins, like the Boundless superhero set or certain bulky crossover outfits, have also faced temporary bans due to competitive advantages or visual glitches. However, complete game crashes are relatively rare. That explains why Epic acted so aggressively to pull the Dune gear offline.

When Will the Dune Bundles Return?

Right now, there is no official release window for the fixed skins. Epic’s developers are likely working on a client-side hotfix to lock down the cape bones and prevent the infinite stretching glitch. This kind of update usually rolls out within a few days, often tied to a minor weekly update.

Until then, players wanting to show their love for Arrakis will have to wait. The sandstorms will have to do without their Fremen warriors for just a little while longer.
