Fortnite Tracker Stats Expose Chapter 7 Balance Issues

The Hard Data Behind the Frustration

Every time Epic Games rolls out a new Fortnite chapter, a brief honeymoon period follows. Players explore the fresh map, try out the wacky new items, and adapt to the updated mechanics. But Chapter 7 has hit a major snag. For weeks, casual and competitive players alike have complained that games feel oddly sweaty and unbalanced. Now, they have the hard evidence to back up those feelings.

Third-party database site Fortnite Tracker recently launched its upgraded telemetry suite tailored for Chapter 7. The results have sent shockwaves through the community. According to the platform’s fresh batch of live match metrics, the game is currently suffering from a dual crisis: a highly broken skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) system and a weapon sandbox that is almost completely dominated by a single gun.

Lobby Balances are Completely Broken

For years, Fortnite’s matchmaking has operated inside a black box. Epic Games rarely details how its algorithms pair players together. To pull back the curtain, Fortnite Tracker introduced its new “Lobby Depth and Distribution” tool. It measures the rank and historical K/D ratios of every player in a given lobby to assign a difficulty score.

The findings are startling. In over 450,000 matches analyzed during the first fortnight of Chapter 7, the tool revealed that Bronze and Silver ranked players are regularly being pulled into lobbies with Platinum and Unreal-rank competitors. In roughly 34% of public matches, at least five players in the lobby had a career K/D ratio over 4.5, while the bottom half of the lobby averaged under 0.8.

“We knew there was a mismatch, but we didn’t think it was this severe,” says Marcus Vance, a lead data analyst who works closely with the Tracker Network. “The system seems to prioritize fast queue times above all else. When the matchmaking pool thins out even slightly, it abandons skill boundaries entirely to get games started. This essentially turns lower-skilled players into cannon fodder for the top five percent.”

The Vortex Repeater Problem

But matchmaking is only half the battle. Fortnite Tracker’s new weapon telemetry tools have also highlighted a massive disparity in weapon performance. The clear culprit? The new Vortex Repeater Rifle.

The weapon was introduced as a high-skill, semi-automatic precision tool. Instead, it has become an absolute necessity for anyone looking to secure a Victory Royale. Fortnite Tracker’s weapon-specific win-rate charts paint a bleak picture of the current sandbox:

  • The Vortex Repeater currently holds a staggering 57.8% win rate when carried in a player’s active inventory during the final storm circle.
  • In high-tier lobbies (Diamond rank and above), the rifle accounted for 41% of all eliminations last week.
  • No other weapon in the game—including the vaulted mythical variants—has a win rate exceeding 18% in the late game.

These numbers point to an incredibly stale meta. Players who do not run the Vortex Repeater are playing at an extreme disadvantage. “It is the only weapon that matters right now,” says professional Fortnite player Tyler “Kovaks” Miller. “If you don’t find one off spawn, or at least by the mid-game, you might as well queue up for the next match. It crushes shields instantly and has virtually zero damage drop-off over distance.”

Epic Games Faces a Crucial Decision

With the first major Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) event of the chapter looming on the horizon, pressure is mounting on Epic Games to deploy a hotfix. Historically, the developer has relied on internal data to justify balance changes. However, when third-party sites lay out such glaring disparities so publicly, ignoring the community becomes much harder.

Epic has already announced a minor stability patch scheduled for next Tuesday, but they haven’t confirmed whether weapon tuning or matchmaking changes are on the agenda. Until then, players logging into Chapter 7 will have to brace themselves for brutal lobbies and a whole lot of Vortex Repeater fire.
