Fortnite players should prepare for a quiet morning. Epic Games has officially confirmed that the upcoming v37.00 update, which launches the highly anticipated Chapter 7 Season 4, will require a significantly longer server downtime than usual. If you are planning to drop onto the island first thing in the morning, you will definitely need to adjust your plans.
The developer shared the news via the official Fortnite Status account on X. According to the announcement, matchmaking will be disabled starting at 1:30 AM Eastern Time (6:30 AM UTC). Just thirty minutes later, at 2:00 AM ET, the servers will go completely dark. Epic has warned players that this offline maintenance window will be extended, meaning the game could remain unavailable for several hours.
Why the Extended Wait?
Major seasonal updates are always big events, but a full-scale chapter transition is a different beast entirely. Epic Games is essentially rebuilding the game’s foundation for the next several months. Rumors have been circulating for weeks about what Chapter 7 Season 4 will bring to the table. From a completely redesigned map with brand-new biomes to heavily rumored crossover events, the scale of the update is massive.
Epic hinted at the sheer volume of new content in their public statement. “Please note that patch sizes will be larger than normal on all platforms,” the Fortnite Status team posted. “Downtime will also be extended as we prepare the island for the next era.” That means if you are on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, or PC, you will need to clear some room on your hard drive.
How to Prepare Your Setup
To avoid staring at a slow progress bar when the servers finally come back online, players can take a few simple steps to get ready:
- Free up hard drive space: Given Epic’s warning about the patch size, make sure your console or PC has at least 30 to 40 GB of free space to accommodate the update.
- Enable auto-updates: Keep your device in sleep or standby mode overnight. This allows your platform to detect and download the update the moment Epic pushes it live.
- Expect login queues: Even after the servers are technically online, millions of players will try to log in at the same time. You will likely face a queue, so patience is key.
Usually, standard seasonal downtime lasts anywhere from two to three hours. However, for a launch of this scale, history suggests we could be looking at four to six hours of downtime—and potentially longer if the developers run into any unexpected technical hurdles during the deployment process.
What Is Coming in Chapter 7 Season 4?
While Epic Games has kept official patch notes under lock and key, the community’s prominent dataminers have already painted a fascinating picture of what is to come. Insiders suggest that v37.00 will introduce completely revamped movement mechanics, potentially including wall-running or enhanced climbing. Additionally, several classic weapons are expected to go into the vault to make room for a futuristic, high-tech arsenal.
There are also heavy whispers of a massive collaboration headlining the new Battle Pass. Over the years, Fortnite has built its reputation on bringing pop culture icons into its universe, and Chapter 7 Season 4 looks to keep that trend alive. Whether you are a competitive player or a casual fan who just likes exploring the map with friends, the new season promises a fresh start for everyone.
We will keep a close eye on the server status throughout the morning. Be sure to check back for updates on when the gates finally open and the new island is ready for exploration.
