Fortnitemares 2026 Brings Disney Villains and Chapter 7 Teasers
A Spooky Crossover of Epic Proportions
Fortnitemares is back. And it is unlike anything players have seen before. Epic Games officially rolled out its 2026 Halloween event early Tuesday morning, transforming the battle royale island into a dark, gothic playground. While community members expected the usual array of spooky skins and map decorations, Epic caught everyone off guard. This year, they have partnered with Disney to bring some of the entertainment giant’s most iconic villains directly into the fight.
This is not just a simple cosmetic collaboration. The villains are fully integrated into the island’s ecosystem, acting as powerful bosses who guard highly contested areas. Players will have to fight their way through hostile environments just to catch a glimpse of them.
Classic Villains Take the Island
Three main antagonists have claimed territory on the island: Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil. Each brings a unique threat to the battlefield. Cruella de Vil patrols the paved highways in a heavily modified, weaponized vintage coupe. She will run down any players caught out in the open. Captain Hook has docked a massive, ghostly pirate ship near the western lagoon. He commands a crew of skeletal NPCs who fire cannons at anyone approaching from the beach.
Then there is Maleficent. She has taken over the ruined castle in the center of the map, turning the surrounding forest into a maze of giant, glowing thorns. Fighting her is a multi-stage battle. She casts powerful dark magic that can destroy player builds in seconds. If you manage to defeat her, she drops a powerful Mythic item: Maleficent’s Staff, which lets players summon rows of deadly thorns to block opponents and deal massive damage.
Next-Gen Horror with UEFN
Epic is also using this event to showcase the growing capabilities of the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). Instead of relying solely on the battle royale mode, Fortnitemares 2026 introduces three custom survival maps developed in-house. These maps play more like cooperative horror games than standard Fortnite matches.

- The Whispering Woods: A dark forest map where players must stick together. The catch? Your flashlight battery depletes quickly, and you have to find batteries hidden in old cabins while avoiding a shifting shadow monster.
- The Captain’s Cove: A wave-defense map set on a sinking ship, where players must repair leaks and fight off deep-sea creatures.
- Cruella’s Chase: An intense, maze-like escape map where players must solve puzzles while avoiding an invincible, patrolling vehicle.
“We wanted to push UEFN to its absolute limit this year,” Charlie Wen, Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games, said in a statement. “We wanted to see if we could make players genuinely feel uneasy. With the new dynamic lighting and AI tools, we managed to create environments that feel completely separate from the main battle royale.”
Teasers for Chapter 7 Begin
While players are busy fighting Disney villains, lore enthusiasts have noticed something else. Epic has quietly planted clues pointing toward the next era of the game. Scattered across the island are high-tech laboratory ruins containing flickering computer monitors. These terminals display corrupted data logs and weird audio files that reference a “timeline collapse.”
These clues are clearly setting the stage for Chapter 7, which is expected to launch early next year. Strange rifts have also started appearing in the sky, crackling with purple energy. Unlike the rifts players are used to, these do not teleport you. Instead, standing near them distorts your gravity and muffles game audio. The community is already flooded with theories, with some guessing that Chapter 7 will feature a fully sci-fi, space-themed map.
Gear, Rewards, and Timing
Of course, it would not be Fortnitemares without some classic gear. The update unvaults the Pumpkin Launcher and the Witch Broom, which remain fan favorites for fast traversal. Epic has also introduced the “Shadow Elixir,” a new consumable that turns players invisible for fifteen seconds, though it leaves them unable to shoot during that time.
A free event pass is available to all players, offering spooky glider skins, back blings, and emotes for completing daily challenges. For those willing to spend V-Bucks, the item shop features full skin bundles for Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella, complete with custom pickaxes and loading screens.
The Fortnitemares 2026 event runs from today until November 3. Players have just under three weeks to explore the new maps, collect the exclusive gear, and solve the mysteries of Chapter 7 before the darkness fades.
