Fortnite Confirms FNAF Collab for Fortnitemares 2026
The Long-Awaited Animatronics Are Finally Coming
Epic Games is pulling out all the stops for its next big Halloween event. After years of relentless rumors, internet hoaxes, and teased Easter eggs, the publisher has finally confirmed that Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming to Fortnite. The crossover will anchor Fortnitemares 2026, alongside a massive push for highly detailed, user-generated horror experiences built in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
It is the moment horror fans have been begging for. Rumors of Freddy Fazbear joining the battle royale first surfaced years ago, sparking countless concept designs and fake leak videos online. Now, it is official. Epic Games revealed that the animatronic crew from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza will debut as in-game outfits when the update drops in mid-October.
Players can expect to see Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy in the Item Shop. Epic hints that there might be a few extra surprises lurking in the dark, too. Speculation points to a customizable Springtrap skin or a reactive back bling that reacts whenever players secure an elimination. The animatronics will feature their signature eerie, mechanical movements, translated perfectly into Fortnite’s distinct art style.
“We wanted to make sure this collaboration felt authentic to what makes FNAF so terrifying,” said an Epic Games spokesperson. “It is not just about putting skins in the shop. It is about bringing that tension, that feeling of being watched, into the gameplay itself.”
UEFN Takes Center Stage
To support this creepy vibe, Epic is leaning heavily into UEFN. This year’s Fortnitemares will showcase a curated playlist of horror maps that push the limits of what the game engine can do. Thanks to recent updates to Fortnite’s creator tools, these custom maps will feature first-person perspective gameplay, dynamic shadow systems, and custom audio designed to jump-scare players.
In previous years, Fortnitemares relied heavily on in-house creations, like the Storm King battles or Horde Rush mode. While Horde Rush is expected to return, the spotlight has clearly shifted toward the community. By handing the keys over to independent developers using UEFN, Epic is essentially outsourcing its creative heavy lifting. It is a win-win situation. Creators get massive exposure and a cut of the revenue, while players get a virtually endless supply of high-quality horror games without leaving the Fortnite ecosystem.
Among the confirmed UEFN experiences is a game called ‘The Shift,’ where players must work together to repair generators in an abandoned power plant while an AI-controlled monster stalks them. Another map, ‘Echoes of the Past,’ utilizes advanced spatial audio to guide players through a pitch-black labyrinth where sound is their only survival tool.
Spooky Battle Royale Updates
Of course, the classic battle royale mode is getting its annual spooky makeover as well. The island will be blanketed in a thick, eerie fog that reduces visibility. The classic Pumpkin Launcher is making its return, alongside some brand-new supernatural weapons. Rumor has it that a new ‘Security Flashlight’ item will let players stun opponents or reveal hidden traps in dark corners of the map. Witch Broom items are also expected to return, giving players a quick way to escape tight spots.
The Fortnitemares 2026 event is scheduled to launch on October 13, 2026, and will run through early November. Epic plans to roll out the content in phases, starting with the UEFN horror showcase before launching the main FNAF cosmetics and in-game challenges a week later.
With the FNAF movie franchise continuing to dominate online horror culture, the timing of this crossover could not be better. For a community that has spent half a decade tracking every minor game file update for a hint of Freddy Fazbear, the wait is finally over. Prepare your V-Bucks and keep your flashlight close—this October is going to be a scary one on the island.
