The Spooky Season is Coming to the Island
Halloween is still weeks away, but Epic Games is already turning up the dread. The developer just dropped a massive teaser for Fortnitemares 2026. This year’s event promises to be one of the most ambitious horror crossovers in the battle royale’s history. Players can expect a mix of legendary cinema slashers, eerie original designs, and the return of some highly sought-after holiday classics. It is a big moment for fans of the macabre.
Iconic Slasher Collaborations Confirmed
Rumors had been swirling in the community for months. Now, Epic has all but confirmed that horror royalty is finally arriving on the Island. Fans of classic 80s slasher films have plenty of reasons to celebrate. Foremost among the teased collaborations is Freddy Krueger from the legendary franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street. For years, licensing hurdles kept the dream demon out of the loop. That changes this October.
He won’t be alone, either. Insiders point to a long-awaited crossover with Friday the 13th, bringing Jason Voorhees into the game alongside his classic rival. These cosmetics will not just be simple character skins. According to leaks and official teaser images, each character comes with a fully realized set of gear. Expect custom back blings, harvesting tools, and unique built-in emotes.
What’s in the Shop?
- Freddy Krueger Bundle: Includes the signature fedora, a clawed glove pickaxe, and a custom sleep-walking emote.
- Jason Voorhees Set: Features the iconic hockey mask, a bloody machete harvesting tool, and a generator-smashing emote.
- Leatherface: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre protagonist joins the hunt with a chainsaw harvesting tool that features custom revving sound effects.
“We wanted to honor the source material,” says an Epic designer familiar with the project. “It is not just about putting a mask on a default character. We wanted the animations, the ambient sounds, and the styles to feel like they jumped straight off a VHS tape.”
Returning Favorites and Vaulted Classics
Fortnitemares is not just about the new faces. Epic Games is also opening up its vault to bring back beloved classics. Popular Halloween outfits like the Skull Trooper, Ghoul Trooper, and Hollowhead are set to make their annual return to the Item Shop rotation. Michael Myers, who made a massive splash in previous years, will also return to the shop alongside Jack Skellington and the Resident Evil crew.
For players who missed out on these skins during past events, this is the perfect chance to grab them. The classic horror bundles are expected to cost between 1,500 and 2,500 V-Bucks, depending on the number of included cosmetics. Epic will also offer massive discounted bundles for players looking to collect the entire spooky set.
Map Changes and Spooky Gameplay
But Fortnitemares is more than just a cosmetic upgrade. The entire Fortnite map is getting a creepy makeover. Fog will once again blanket the battlefield, reducing visibility and making close-quarters ambushes far more terrifying. Epic is also bringing back the fan-favorite Horde Rush mode, where players must team up to fight off waves of Cube Monsters. This year, the mode reportedly features new boss fights modeled after the guest horror characters, giving players a PvE challenge that ties directly into the cinematic theme.
As for the loot pool, expect classic gear to unvault. The Pumpkin Launcher is a guaranteed return, bringing its signature laugh back to the battlefield. Witch Brooms will likely return as a high-mobility traversal item, perfect for escaping tight situations or rotating into the safe zone.
The official rollout for Fortnitemares 2026 is expected to begin mid-October, with weekly shop updates carrying the theme all the way through the first week of November. Get your V-Bucks ready. This year is shaping up to be an absolute scream.
