Fortnite Chapter 7 Launches Permanent Disney Survival Worlds

Fortnite is no longer just a battle royale game. It has not been for a long time, but today’s update makes that transition permanent.

With the launch of Chapter 7, Epic Games has officially rolled out its highly anticipated Disney Universe. This is not a temporary event or a collection of store cosmetics. It is a massive, persistent ecosystem of dedicated survival-crafting worlds built directly inside the Fortnite client.

The project is the first major milestone of Disney’s massive $1.5 billion equity investment in Epic Games, which was announced in early 2024. At the time, the companies promised a shared digital universe that would coexist alongside Fortnite. Now, players are finally getting their first hands-on experience with it.

A Massive Survival Sandbox

Under the hood, the Disney expansion functions much like the successful LEGO Fortnite mode. However, instead of plastic blocks, players are dropped into expansive, stylized environments pulled directly from Marvel and Pixar history.

According to Epic, the experience launches with two distinct, permanent realms:

  • The Marvel Sandbox: A survival world set in a fractured, post-apocalyptic region of Earth. Players must scavenge for Vibranium, rebuild ruined S.H.I.E.L.D. bases, and defend their settlements from hostile Ultron sentries.
  • The Pixar Sandbox: A whimsical survival experience starting in a giant-sized backyard biome. Players find themselves shrunk down to the size of toys, forced to craft shelter out of cardboard boxes and stray soda cans while avoiding massive garden insects.

“We wanted to build something that lasts,” Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said in a statement. “This isn’t about jumping into a map for a ten-minute match and leaving. These are living, breathing spaces where players can build communities, tell stories, and keep coming back to the same home they created.”

Building for the Long Haul

The persistence of these worlds is key. Unlike previous Fortnite crossovers, which vanished at the end of a competitive season, these realms are permanent fixtures. Your progress, your fortresses, and your gathered resources save automatically. Players can invite friends to join their world even when the host is offline, utilizing a cloud-saving structure similar to dedicated Minecraft servers.

For Disney, this represents a massive pivot in how they license their biggest franchises. Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, noted that the collaboration aims to meet younger audiences exactly where they already spend their time. “Our fans want to do more than just watch our characters,” D’Amaro said. “They want to live in their worlds, build alongside them, and create their own adventures.”

Ecosystem Integration

Progression in the Disney Universe is tightly integrated with the rest of Fortnite. Players can earn XP toward their main Battle Pass while harvesting Vibranium or building cardboard castles. Many existing Marvel and Pixar skins bought in the Fortnite Item Shop over the years will automatically unlock special, survival-specific variants with unique crafting bonuses.

Epic has already hinted at what is coming next. While Marvel and Pixar are the headliners for the Chapter 7 launch, the developers plan to roll out Star Wars and classic Walt Disney Animation realms in subsequent updates throughout the year.

For now, players can dive into the new worlds starting today. Whether you want to establish a high-tech fortress in the ruins of Wakanda or survive a rainy night in a giant backyard, the boundaries of Fortnite have officially expanded.
