Fortnite to Launch Permanent ‘Disney Horizon’ Shop Tab in 2026
Fortnite is no longer just a battle royale. It is a virtual mall. Soon, that mall will have a permanent anchor tenant.
Epic Games has announced plans to launch a dedicated, persistent storefront tab called “Disney Horizon” inside the Fortnite Item Shop. Scheduled for a Fall 2026 release, the digital wing will serve as a permanent home for exclusive Pixar and Marvel collectibles. The move marks the most concrete step yet in Disney’s massive $1.5 billion partnership with the gaming giant.
A Permanent Home for Disney IP
For years, Fortnite players have grown used to the frantic daily rotations of the Item Shop. If you missed a Marvel skin or a Star Wars glider, you might have to wait months—or even years—for it to return. Disney Horizon changes that dynamic entirely.
Unlike the standard rotating shop, this new tab will remain a constant fixture. Epic Games intends for Disney Horizon to be a reliable marketplace where fans can browse and buy Pixar and Marvel cosmetics at any time. Insiders suggest the inventory will expand over time, featuring highly detailed character skins, unique emotes, back blings, and digital toys designed specifically for Fortnite’s evolving ecosystem.
While Epic has not yet revealed the full launch lineup, leaks and early teaser information point to a heavy focus on fan-favorite Pixar franchises like Toy Story and Monsters, Inc., alongside a fresh wave of Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes and comic-book-accurate designs.
Building the Disney Universe Inside Unreal Engine
This integration is not an isolated update. It is the first major milestone of a multi-year project first teased in early 2024. At the time, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney shocked the industry by announcing a deep collaboration to build an entirely new “persistent universe” operating adjacent to Fortnite.
That joint venture aims to let consumers play, watch, shop, and create using Disney assets inside Epic’s Unreal Engine ecosystem. Disney Horizon is the retail storefront for this ambitious digital world.
“This is about giving fans a continuous connection to the characters they love,” says media analyst Sarah Jenkins. “In the past, video game tie-ins were temporary marketing stunts. What Epic and Disney are building is a permanent virtual theme park where shopping is just as important as playing. By putting the shop directly in Fortnite, they bypass traditional app stores and build a direct line to millions of active consumers.”
What This Means for the Fortnite Economy
Integrating a permanent Disney storefront could radically alter Fortnite’s in-game economy. Epic has spent years perfecting the art of “fear of missing out,” or FOMO. Limited-time sales drive massive, sudden spikes in V-Bucks purchases.
By introducing a persistent tab, Epic is shifting toward a more traditional retail model. This approach ensures steady, predictable revenue from younger players who may not want to wait for seasonal rotations. It also makes Fortnite a highly attractive platform for other entertainment brands looking to establish a permanent digital footprint.
The timeline for a Fall 2026 launch suggests that both companies are taking the necessary time to build robust backend systems. Coordinating licensing agreements, virtual currency distribution, and cross-platform compatibility across millions of consoles, PCs, and mobile devices is a massive technical challenge.
What’s Next?
Epic Games is expected to share more details about the technical framework of Disney Horizon during its upcoming developer conferences in late 2025. For now, players can expect the usual slate of temporary crossovers to keep them busy. But by the time Fall 2026 rolls around, the Fortnite Item Shop will look very different. The battle bus is getting some permanent new passengers.
