Fortnite Debuts Disney Villains Hub in Fortnitemares 2026

Epic Games is kicking off its annual Fortnitemares event with a massive addition that players have anticipated for over two years. Starting today, the battle royale game is hosting a permanent, persistent Disney interactive universe hub. This launch marks the first major milestone of the $1.5 billion partnership Epic and Disney announced back in early 2024.

This year, the Halloween season in Fortnite is not just about temporary spooky decorations or pumpkin launchers. Instead, players are stepping into an expansive virtual space dedicated entirely to Disney’s most iconic antagonists.

A New Era of Disney inside Fortnite

The new hub is designed to live inside Fortnite indefinitely. It serves as a portal to various Disney-themed experiences, beginning with a dark, atmospheric world ruled by classic bad guys. From the moment players jump into the portal, they are greeted by a bleak, beautifully rendered gothic realm that feels entirely different from the standard battle royale island.

Epic built this space using the latest Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) tools. The hub is not just a lobby; it is a living ecosystem where players can hang out, buy digital merchandise, and access special game modes. Players can even gather at an in-game outdoor theater to watch classic Disney villain clips or customize personal cabins within the hub.

“We wanted to build a place where Disney fans can live out their dark fantasy dreams,” Epic Games said in their patch notes. “This hub is the foundation of what we are building together for the long term.”

Playing as the Bad Guys

For many players, the biggest draw of Fortnitemares 2026 is the roster of playable Disney Villains. Epic has introduced highly detailed skins for characters that fans have requested for years. Players can now purchase and play as several iconic figures:

  • Maleficent, the mistress of all evil, complete with her signature staff.
  • Captain Hook, featuring a custom traversal emote that mimics his dueling style.
  • Cruella de Vil, who wields a high-fashion cane as a harvesting tool.
  • Hades, the ruler of the underworld, with reactive blue flames that flare up after eliminations.

Epic has confirmed these skins will remain in players’ lockers permanently. They can be used across most Fortnite experiences, including standard Battle Royale and LEGO Fortnite.

Custom Survival Maps and Gameplay

The update also introduces several custom survival maps built specifically for this event. These are not your typical gunfights. Instead, they are objective-based cooperative games where players must work together to escape the clutches of Disney’s classic foes.

In one map, titled Escape the Moors, players find themselves trapped in a thorny labyrinth controlled by Maleficent. They must solve puzzles, gather resources, and avoid her raven familiar to find the exit. Another map, Hades’ Underworld Arena, pits teams against waves of mythical monsters in a gladiator-style survival gauntlet. NPCs like Ursula and Jafar also appear as quest givers, offering players high-tier loot in exchange for completing dangerous challenges.

These maps leverage Fortnite’s survival mechanics, requiring players to manage their health, find light sources in the dark, and build barricades to keep monsters at bay. Winning these matches unlocks exclusive free cosmetics, including a poison apple glider and a shadow-themed weapon wrap.

The Big Picture for Epic and Disney

This launch is the first real look at what Disney and Epic Games meant when they promised a persistent universe inside Fortnite. Rather than building a completely separate game, Disney is integrating its intellectual property directly into Epic’s existing platform, taking advantage of Fortnite’s massive, pre-existing player base.

The timing is also deliberate. Launching during Fortnitemares gives the partnership a highly visible, thematic kickoff that fits perfectly with the villains theme. For Epic, it is a chance to prove that UEFN can handle complex, branded virtual worlds that keep players coming back daily.

As Fortnitemares 2026 rolls out over the next few weeks, the Disney hub will receive weekly updates. Players can expect new challenges, hidden Easter eggs, and perhaps even a few surprise character appearances as Halloween approaches. The portal is open, and for the first time in Fortnite history, it is good to be bad.
