Fortnite Players React to New Permanent Disney Storefront

Fortnite has a massive new addition, and it’s here to stay. Epic Games recently rolled out its highly anticipated permanent Disney storefront inside the Battle Royale Item Shop. The response? It’s complicated.

For players, the launch brings a wave of highly detailed Pixar and Marvel cosmetic bundles. Characters from The Incredibles, including Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone, made their debut alongside iconic Marvel heroes and villains. But while the initial hype was real, the community’s reaction has quickly morphed into a complicated debate over pricing, shop layout, and the sheer volume of licensed content.

The Incredibles and Marvel Take Over

The centerpiece of the launch is undoubtedly the Pixar collection. Players have clamored for classic animation skins for years, and Epic delivered with striking, accurate models. Elastigirl and Mr. Incredible arrived with custom back blings, while Frozone came equipped with an emote that lets players slide on paths of ice. On social media platforms like X and Reddit, clips of Frozone using his traversal ice slide quickly went viral.

Marvel also got a major refresh. Fans saw the return of popular cosmetic sets, alongside brand-new variations of characters tied to the current Marvel-themed season. The level of detail on these skins is undeniably high. Epic’s artists clearly worked closely with Disney to capture the exact look of these animated and comic book figures. For die-hard fans, running around the island as a childhood hero is a dream come true.

Sticker Shock: The Cost of Disney Magic

But the excitement cooled down fast when players saw the price tags. Cosmetic bundles in Fortnite have steadily grown more expensive, and the Disney launch pushed many budgets to the limit. Individual character skins hover around 1,500 to 1,800 V-Bucks, while complete bundles can easily cost upward of 3,500 V-Bucks. In real-world currency, buying a single set of Pixar characters can cost more than $25.

“If you want the whole Incredibles family and their gear, you’re looking at the price of a full indie game,” one Reddit user wrote in a popular thread discussing the shop update. This sentiment echoed across the community. Many younger players feel priced out of the experience. They argue that the fun of crossovers is lost when the financial barrier is so high.

Get Know Instant Access

It’s not just the base price that has fans talking, but the exclusion of individual items from certain bundles. To get specific emotes or pickaxes, players are often forced to buy the entire package rather than picking and choosing. This sales tactic has drawn sharp criticism from consumer advocates within the gaming community, who accuse Epic of leveraging artificial scarcity and fear of missing out (FOMO) to drive up microtransaction sales.

The “Bloated” Item Shop Debate

Beyond the cost, the permanent Disney integration has reignited a long-standing complaint about Fortnite’s Item Shop user interface. With the addition of a permanent Disney tab, the shop menu has stretched to an unprecedented length. Players now have to scroll through dozens of rows of Lego kits, older crossover skins, music tracks, and car bodies before reaching the standard daily rotation.

Some players feel this clutter hurts the game’s original identity. Original Fortnite skins—once the lifeblood of the community’s culture—often get buried under waves of licensed intellectual property. The daily shop, which used to be an exciting midnight ritual for players looking for rare returns, now feels like a digital shopping mall. Critics argue the game is losing its quirky charm in favor of becoming a giant billboard for corporate partners.

Gameplay and Competitive Concerns

Some players also raised concerns about competitive gameplay. Bulkier skins, like Mr. Incredible, have massive hitboxes visually—even if their actual mechanical hitboxes remain identical to standard skins. In a high-stakes shooter, looking twice as wide as your opponent can feel like a distinct disadvantage. “Mr. Incredible is basically a giant target,” noted one Fortnite streamer during a live match. “He looks amazing, but I would never wear this in a ranked lobby.”

Just the Beginning of the Epic-Disney Era

Despite the complaints, the numbers suggest the storefront is doing exactly what Epic and Disney intended. The skins are everywhere in matchmaking lobbies. Every lobby features at least a few Frozones sliding across the battlefield or Elastigirls using classic emotes. This launch is only the foundation. Epic Games has already announced plans for an entire Disney-themed digital universe that will live adjacent to Fortnite, promising even deeper integration in the coming years. Players will have to get used to the corporate synergy; it’s not going away anytime soon.
