Disney Villains Maleficent and Chernabog Heading to Fortnite

When Disney poured 1.5 billion dollars into Epic Games, players knew the crossover potential would be massive. We have already seen Marvel heroes, Star Wars Jedis, and classic Disney princesses make their way into the game. But a new leak suggests Epic is planning much further ahead than anyone realized. The target? Halloween 2026.

According to recent insider leaks, Fortnitemares 2026 will turn its focus toward the darkest corners of the Disney vault. The headline acts for this future spooky season are two of the most iconic animated villains in history: Maleficent and Chernabog. These will not just be basic character skins. Sources indicate they are being designed as highly reactive cosmetics that change as the match progresses.

The Shadow of Chernabog

For older Disney fans, Chernabog is an incredible pull. The towering, bat-winged demon from the 1940 classic Fantasia has terrified children for generations. Translating his massive, mountain-sized silhouette into a playable Fortnite skin presents a unique design challenge. Epic’s developers are reportedly working on a model where Chernabog’s wings unfold during glider deployment and contract tightly during combat to maintain fair hitboxes. Rumor has it that his body will glow with molten fire as the player racks up eliminations.

Maleficent Brings the Green Flames

Then there is Maleficent, the Mistress of All Evil. While she has seen live-action revamps, the Fortnite skin will reportedly pay homage to her original 1959 animated appearance in Sleeping Beauty. Her reactive elements are expected to feature her signature green flames. Some leakers even suggest a built-in emote that allows her to briefly channel her dragon form, or perhaps a glider that summons her classic raven sidekick, Diablo.

How Reactive Cosmetics Will Work

To understand why this is a big deal, you have to look at how reactive cosmetics work in Fortnite. Unlike standard skins that remain static throughout a match, reactive outfits respond to in-game triggers. This could mean a skin glows brighter as you get more kills, changes colors when you shield up, or even alters its physical shape when you perform a specific action.

Get Know Instant Access

  • Maleficent’s robes could crackle with green magical energy the longer you survive.
  • Her staff could flare up whenever you harvest materials.
  • Chernabog’s transition from shadow to fire could make him one of the most visually striking characters on the battlefield.

A Long-Term Vision for Disney and Epic

Why are we hearing about 2026 plans so early? Epic Games operates on an incredibly long development cycle, especially when dealing with massive external intellectual properties. Licensing agreements, character model approvals, and complex animation rigging take years to perfect. By planning these drops years in advance, Epic ensures that when the skins finally hit the Item Shop, they function flawlessly.

The collaboration is part of a larger, long-term initiative. Disney CEO Bob Iger previously described the partnership as Disney’s largest entry ever into the games space. It is designed to be a multi-year project that will eventually allow users to play, watch, shop, and create their own Disney-themed experiences inside Epic’s ecosystem. Incorporating these classic villains into the core battle royale mode is just the tip of the iceberg, serving as a bridge between the traditional Fortnite experience and the upcoming Disney-specific digital world.

Bringing classic, darker elements of the Disney brand to Fortnitemares shows that Epic wants to appeal to multiple generations of players simultaneously. Older gamers who grew up with traditional hand-drawn animation get a heavy hit of nostalgia, while younger players get to experience these iconic figures in a modern, competitive setting.

Community Anticipation

While 2026 is still a long way off, the hype is already building. Fortnite fans have long complained about the lack of truly classic horror icons in recent Fortnitemares events, which have sometimes leaned heavily on newer collaborations or simple reskins. Introducing powerhouse names like Maleficent and Chernabog could return the annual October event to its former glory.

As with all leaks, plans can shift. Release dates can slip, designs can be overhauled, and licensing issues can crop up. However, the sheer detail of these early concepts suggests that Epic is fully committed to making its Disney partnership a cornerstone of the game’s future. For now, players will have to wait and see how these legendary villains fare on the island.
