Fortnite FNAF Skin Pricing Sparks Outrage Ahead of Fortnitemares
The Hype Meets Reality
The crossover Fortnite fans have begged for is finally here. Freddy Fazbear has officially landed in the Item Shop just in time for the Fortnitemares 2026 celebration. But the community’s reaction isn’t entirely celebratory. Instead, social media is flooded with complaints. The issue? A shockingly high price tag.
Breaking Down the Fazbear Prices
Epic Games released the long-rumored Five Nights at Freddy’s cosmetic set on Wednesday night. It features iconic animatronics, including a detailed Freddy Fazbear skin with a built-in “screamer” emote and a decaying Springtrap variant. The set also includes the Carl the Cupcake back bling and a Foxy-themed pickaxe. Individually, the Freddy skin costs 1,800 V-Bucks. However, the complete “Fazbear & Co.” bundle will set players back a massive 3,400 V-Bucks.
That is a lot of virtual cash. In real money, 3,400 V-Bucks translates to roughly $28.00 USD. Because of how V-Buck packages are structured, players have to buy the $31.99 currency pack just to afford the full set. For younger fans, that is a steep hill to climb. “I’ve literally waited years for this,” wrote one Reddit user in a thread that quickly gathered over 5,000 upvotes. “But thirty dollars for a digital bear is just greedy. I can’t justify it.”

An “Exploitative” Trend?
This backlash is about more than just the raw number. It is about how the pricing compares to previous high-profile gaming crossovers. Historically, Epic Games has priced major intellectual properties, like Marvel or Naruto, much more reasonably. Typically, those bundles hovered between 2,200 and 2,800 V-Bucks. Many players feel the steep climb to 3,400 V-Bucks is an artificial tax on the community’s intense hype.
On X, formerly Twitter, fans quickly made #FNAFxFortnite trend, though the conversation was dominated by frustration. Memes of Freddy Fazbear looking disappointed or literally robbing players’ bank accounts spread rapidly. Prominent community creators also voiced their concerns. “The skins are incredible, maybe some of Epic’s best work,” tweeted one popular game leaker. “But pricing them this high during Fortnitemares, when players are already saving up for other spooky cosmetics, feels like a misstep.”
The Timing of Fortnitemares
The timing of the release makes the financial squeeze even worse. Fortnitemares is traditionally the busiest time of year for the Fortnite Item Shop. Epic routinely drops dozens of fan-favorite spooky skins alongside fresh collaborations throughout October. With so much content competing for players’ wallets, a single high-priced bundle forces tough choices.
Epic Games has not yet responded to the community’s outcry. While the developer has occasionally adjusted bundle prices in the past or offered partial refunds when cosmetics were altered, a flat price drop remains highly unlikely. For now, players must decide whether to cough up the cash or watch from the sidelines as Freddy Fazbear does the Griddy on the battlefield.
