Epic Games recently rolled out a major update to its public API privacy settings. Now, the competitive scene’s favorite diagnostic tool, Fortnite Tracker, is largely blind.
For years, Fortnite Tracker has served as the unofficial database for the game’s esports ecosystem. Owned by Tracker Network, the site compiles match histories, win rates, and, most importantly, matchmaking ranks and Power Rankings (PR). If you wanted to scout an opponent before a tournament or prove your worth to a potential duo partner, Fortnite Tracker was where you went. Now, that vital data stream has dried up.
What Changed in the API?
Epic Games quietly adjusted how player data is shared with third-party applications. Historically, third-party sites could query Epic’s API to pull live stats for almost any player, provided their in-game settings allowed it. Under the new Chapter 7 guidelines, Epic has tightened these digital locks. Matchmaking rank and real-time competitive statistics are now hidden by default, requiring a strict opt-in process that many players don’t even know exists.
This means when you search for a rising star or a lobby rival, their rank and recent tournament PR might show up as completely blank. The real-time tracker simply cannot fetch the numbers without explicit permission.
The Fallout for Competitive Players
The impact was immediate. For casual players, it is a minor annoyance. For competitive players, scouts, and tournament organizers, it is a massive headache. Without reliable PR data, seeding tournaments has become a guessing game. Organizers can no longer easily verify a player’s current standing, making fair matchmaking in custom lobbies much harder to orchestrate.
Recruiters for esports organizations and collegiate programs are also feeling the pinch. Many of these scouts rely heavily on public PR leaderboards to identify unsigned talent. Without a central, trusted database, finding the next breakout player becomes an incredibly manual, tedious task.
Several high-level players have expressed their frustration on social media. Many argue that public stats are vital for the health of the competitive scene. It keeps players accountable and drives the ambition to climb the leaderboard. On the other hand, some players welcome the change, noting that hiding stats reduces target-lobbying and toxicity during high-stakes matches.
How to Show Your Stats Again
For players who still want their achievements displayed on public leaderboards, there is a workaround. However, it requires manual action. Players must navigate to their in-game settings menu, head to the Account and Privacy tab, and toggle “Show on Career Leaderboard” to enabled. They also need to ensure that public game stats are set to visible.

Epic Games has not publicly commented on whether they plan to ease these restrictions for recognized esports organizations. The developer has historically prioritized user privacy and reducing third-party data scraping. This trend is not unique to Fortnite; games like Valorant and Destiny 2 have also pushed for tighter API controls in recent years.
For now, Tracker Network is adapting. The platform is urging competitive players to link their Epic accounts directly to their tracker profiles to bypass some of the automated restrictions. Whether the community will widely adopt these extra steps remains to be seen. Until then, the competitive landscape of Chapter 7 will remain a lot more mysterious than players are used to.
